I have cruised Sherman, partied at Peabodys, shot pool for betas and played softball for her too,my mom owned lake city saloon, loved to go eat at topper too, went to the opening of skate plaza, loved $5 car load at showboat drivein theater, watched last movie ever played there before it blew down. School shopped at the Sherman Street fairs through the 80s. Like so many here, I cut my teenage teeth at Skate Plaza, The Corner Pocket, Long Ear Records, the .10 Arcade, Tubbs Hill, and I think Club Cherry Bomb? Had my first (second, third..) under age drinks at the Atrium/Players and 3rd Street Cantina... Yes, a looong time ago. Back then, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of CDA and "experience life", diversity, adventure...I finally "made it out" in 1995/96. I did all of the things I knew I would never do if I would have stayed. Life is funny, 25 years later I am back with my husband, built a house, started a new career, and I am finding myself in a place both familiar and like the upsidedown. Every street holds an echo and yet is simultaneously disorienting. It is still one of the prettiest places I have ever seen a sunrise at, so I count myself lucky to be rediscovering my childhood home through older, and wiser eyes. I love reading about your experiences, they trigger so many memories; I am back home. So glad to have found this blogger. I was there between the 60ies through the 80ies. I cruised Sherman as well when I was a young adult. Those were the days. I later on worked at NIC as a groundskeeper. Was so much fun cleaning the place up after Mt.St.Helens blew her top! I spent my 20th birthday at a bar in Kellogg, well okay it was my birthday weekend. Stopped off to visit my Mom and started our way home. Was not to fun thinking we all knew where 90 was with 4 sets of eyes. We then moved to Spokane, finished up with college at SCC. Moved over to the greater(well was back then) and got jobs.

When I go back to CDA it sure don't look and feel like my hometown. Got to touristy for me. Even Rathdrum changed. No more Rathskellers, no more Corner pocket, no more Taco Johns.... totally a bummer.

I do get homesick often. Sure it changed, but still my hometown. I was the lead bouncer at Peabody's for several year working for Terry and his associate . (Can't recall his name). It was an easy job as I knew most regulars as friends. One night my door bouncer Dan Worthington waved at me for help at the front door. He had a rowdy with a 45 and his buddy with a Bowie knife. These two were threatening Dan as he wouldn't let them in with these at their hip. I calmed this scene by stating I'd buy them their first drink after they take their toys to their rig.
